Line-ups
The world has gone line-up crazy this week, especially Glastonbury,
who not only confirmed
Bruce Springsteen as a headliner, but organiser Michael
Eavis also let slip that Blur are set for Somerset this summer as well. "[You] can
look forward to that, yeah. But it's not officially announced yet," he said, announcing it, erm, unofficially.
It didn’t really matter anyway as the band went on to self-confirm a day later. Emily
Eavis was
quick to add Doves, Florence And The Machine, Emiliana Torrini and Lily
Allen to the bill after the latter had self-confirmed herself a while back anyway.
Other
self-confirmations in the news this week included Papa Roach, who are set to return to Download
Festival for the first time in two years, while festival
chiefs announced that Billy Talent, Dream Theater, Buckcherry, The
Blackout and Anvil will be joining them at Donington Park in 2009.
Sticking with all things heavy and Bullet
For My Valentine joined the bill at Sonisphere after the band pulled their Hammerfest
date due to recording commitments.
Machine Head, Alice In Chains and Avenged Sevenfold will also be at the
Knebworth festival, with all three secured on UK exclusives by organisers. Thin Lizzy will also be back
in town for the debut of the two-day bash alongside Texan newcomers The Sword.
It wasn’t
just the big festivals that dragged in the big names for 2009, with Bestival announcing that Kraftwerk
were booked for a slot on the Isle Of Wight in September. Not just that either, Massive Attack will
top the bill at the boutique bash as well with performances from MGMT, Fleet Foxes, Diplo,
Rusko and many more. Click here for the latest
Bestival line-up.
Back on mainland Britain and the exclusives just didn’t stop. Get
Loaded In The Park secured Orbital's only London festival date of the year, while Glade
made sure Underworld will only do one live UK performance this year – in Winchester,
where the event will be housed from July onwards.
The Isle Of Wight Festival line-up suddenly
got a lot busier this week, giving one headline slot away to two acts. Stereophonics
and Razorlight will take the bill topping duties, with more names to be announced in the coming weeks.
Elsewhere The
Killers let the cat out of the band in regards to their top slot at V Festival at the NME Awards:
"We are indeed headlining the V Festival and we’re lucky to be doing it on our third album – things keep
getting better for us," conceded bassist Mark Stoermer.
There's no guesswork left
for T In The Park after organisers released, not one, but two batches of bands for this year's festival.
Ticket holders can expect to see Manic Street Preachers, Lily Allen, The Specials,
The Streets and many many more. Click
here for the latest T In The Park line-up.
It looks like Mike Skinner and Co from The Streets are in for a busy summer
with the band confirmed as headliners for Summer Sundae Weekender as well. They will be joined by Brit
poppers The Charlatans on the bill as well as our second co-headliners of the week in The Zutons
and Bon Iver.
Hot of the press…
Beachdown Festival were the late Larry's this week, confirming their third headliner – Grace
Jones – as well James Hunter for the Brighton bash late Friday afternoon (27 February).

Crawl announced an alcohol-free version of the urban event for the summer which will only be for 14-18 year olds. That’s
right, no ageism allowed, just great bands like Cocknbullkid, Danananankroyd, Burn
