Fairport Cropredy announces first acts

Steve Winwood, Richard Thompson and traditional Saturday night band Fairport Convention have been announced as the first names for Fairport Cropredy.

Original punk band Buzzcocks, Phil Cool And Ken Nicol, Manchester's funky folk quartet 4 Square and Harlequinn will all join Winwood on the main stage on Thursday (13 August).

Seth Lakeman is set to return to the Oxfordshire event on the Friday (14 August) along with The Dodge Brothers, John Jorgensen Band and Ade Edmondson and the Bad Shepards.

BBC Young Folk Award winners Megan and Joe Henwood will also play the Richard Thompson headlined day along with Colvin-Quarmby.

As always, Fairport Convention will bring the festival to a close on the Saturday night with a three-hour set and several special guests. Ralph McTell will play his first ever full solo set on the final day along with Dreadzone, Feast Of Fiddles and Churchfitters.

Fairport's Cropredy Convention 2009 will take place at Cropedy village, Oxfordshire from 13-15 August.

Tickets go on sale on Sunday 1 March.
