The prize recognises the festival's commitment to green issues including reducing the event's carbon footprint and using the event's profile to raise environmental issues, Hollywood Reporter reports.

Some of the green schemes the festival uses includes solar and wind energy as well as biofuels, biodegradable tent pegs, car-sharing and biodegradable plates and cups.

Glastonbury Festival 2009 will take place at Worthy Farm, Pilton from 24-28 June with Radiohead, Bruce Springsteen and Blur rumoured to be performing.
