Basement Jaxx for The Big Chill 2009

01 December 2008

The south London dance duo will soon be gearing up for a busy summer of festivals, having already been announced for Rock Ness and hotly rumoured for the Isle Of Wight Festival.

Now confirmed for their first ever Big Chill, the familiar site of Simon and Felix's colourful stage show - complete with full band - is bound to be one of the weekend's highlights.

Another band famous for taking the carnival approach, Friendly Fires, have also just been confirmed for the Herefordshire festival, which will take place at Eastnor Castle Deeer Park, near Ledbury, from 7-9 August 2009.

Norman Jay will play his Sunday morning DJ set for the umpteenth consecutive year, while Italian pianist and composer Ludovico Einaudil, Arizonian folksters Calexico, club-land hedonists Horse Meat Disco and jazz legend Pharoah Sanders have also been added.

They join Orbital, who have agreed to reform at the request of The Big Chill organisers and will undoubtedly be one of the biggest draws, despite the festival preferring not to nominate 'headliners' in the traditional sense.

Phil Hartnol, one half of Orbital, said: ‘‘It’s not an exercise in nostalgia at all, the time just seems right. They (The Big Chill) came to us with the offer, and everything just seemed to fall into place. I’ve played at the Big Chill before, I DJed there and played with Long Range, and had a really good time. It’s a great festival. Also the timing seems good: 20 years of being together.’’

As well as reunion coups and a wealth of great music, rolling hills and good times, organisers are promising more campsites, car parks and better facilities.

A spokesman said: "Our new car park layout will mean shorter walks from car to campsites. Finally, if you’re worried about the credit crunch, throughout December you can pay a £50 deposit to stagger the cost."

Tickets are available HERE priced at £129.
