Glastonbury wins big at UK Festival Awards

Three awards and could Jay-Z be back?

The world-famous festival scooped the prizes for Best Major, Most Memorable Moment and the Outstanding Contribution award a packed ceremony, held at the indigO2 in London.

Picking up a trio of awards festival founder Michael Eavis said: "Glastonbury just keeps getting better and you'll see that again next year."

He then joked: "How about Jay-Z again next year?"

Earlier on, Virtual Festivals learnt just how hard this year has been for Glastonbury organisers.

Emily Eavis revealed how they feared this year could be their last in light of an unprecedented media backlash, but as you probably know it turned to triumph. 

This is the first time Glastonbury has picked up the top honours in the 'Best Major Festival' category since the awards began back in 2004, beating off previous winners T In The Park and the Isle of Wight Festival.

The award was presented to Michael Eavis by one of the thousands of fans who voted for Glastonbury Festival. Fans were encouraged to send in their thanks to organisers when they submitted their vote.

Glastonbury Festival also picked up the Most Memorable Moment of the summer for Jay-Z's cover of Oasis' 'Wonderwall' during his headline slot back in June.

Event organiser Michael Eavis was also honoured at the awards for his Outstanding Contribution to Festivals, an accolade given to those who have made a lasting impact on the industry, specifically over the last 12 months.
