Glastonbury 2009: 'Over half tickets sold'

06 October 2008

More than half the tickets for Glastonbury Festival 2009 have been sold after they went on sale yesterday morning (5 October).

An initial rush in the morning caused problems for some fans ordering their tickets, but by yesterday afternoon organisers were hailing the scheme a "great success".

Michael Eavis said: "It's really exciting that people are still remembering one of the best festivals we've ever held and are clearly already looking forward to the next one.

"June saw the most diverse audience for 10 years or so, and hopefully this new fairer ticket system will mean that we have a great crowd again in 2009."

With tickets to next year's event going on sale earlier than ever, fans have been given the option to buy their ticket outright, for £175 plus booking, or to lay down a £50 deposit with the rest not having to be paid until 1 February.

Fans can book as many tickets as they wanted to, as long as each ticket corresponds to a registered individual.
