Reading and Leeds off to a flyer

With sunshine, Abba and backstabbing

Fans in Reading were welcomed with sunshine as Bet Your Own Pet drew a large crowd for what was to be on of their final shows.

Singer Jemima Pearl was on particular destructive form in the MNE/Radio 1 Tent  with the young singer charging around stage and colliding with band members as they ripped through ‘Adventure’ and old favourite ‘Damn Damn Leash’.

Introducing ‘Becky’ she said: “What to do with the first person you have a special relationship with? Find a broken bottle, or any sharp object, and stab them in the back.”

Meanwhile bassist Nathan Vasquez slurred: “Does anybody like drugs? I’m drunk. I’m so drunk. Is anybody else drunk?”  as the set came to a shambolic end with band members diving into the crowd.

Things were less chaotic on the main stage as Dizzee Rascal made his first appearance on a major festival outdoor stage with his staple collection of hits including 'Fix Up Look Sharp’ and ‘Flex’, however the grime star was without Calvin Harris for closing number ‘Dance With Me’.

System Of A Down singer Serj Tankian followed with his first ever UK festival solo show, treating the crowd to his theatrical rock show which included a well received version of ABBA’s ‘Money Money Money’.

Biffy Clyro took over the stage and generated the first mosh pits of the day as a massive crowd turned to witness a
boisterous version of ‘Mountains’ and an acoustic 'Folding Stars', however it was 'Living Is A Problem Because Everything Dies' which inevitably stole the show.

Up in Leeds, Slipknot’s replacement Bring Me The Horizon failed to show up but Mindless Self Indulegnce welcomed the crowd to “their hangover” as Jimmy Urine strutted his way through their electro rock, the crowd pleasing moment proving his rendidtion of 'There’s No Business Like Show Business’.

Alexisonfire made Plain White T’s MOR rock stand out like a sore thumb, however an acoutist version of hit ‘Deliha’ still promoted the biggest singalong of the afternoon.

Reading and Leeds continue throughout the weekend.
