Muse UFO stunt banned by V Festival
But band open the stage to Mike Skinner instead
13 August 2008
The band had been intending to use their two headline shows at the festival to land their own UFO. As you do.
But according to singer Matt Bellamy, V Festival chiefs have pulled the plug on the plan due to health and safety reason.
He said: “We’re trying to get a UFO to come in. Health and Safety as usual are ruining it all. I’m not sure V are quite prepared for us.
“We’ve redesigned the whole stage and we’re bringing in loads of props that won’t be on stage but around the venue. Their initial reaction was: ‘No, this is a festival, that’s not gonna work.’ But we’re gonna make it happen.”
He added: “We’ve written a lot of new songs but we’ve bottled out of playing them live because, from past experience, we’ve ended up hating some of our favourites by the time we recorded them.”
Meanwhile, the loss of a spaceship could herald the landing of a Street. Bellamy has said that the door is open for Mike Skinner to join the band for a rendition of their joint single 'Who Knows Who', however The Streets are not due to be performing at V.
Bellamy said: “We’d be happy to do it if he is. If people like it, maybe he’ll come and play.”
Muse headline V Festival Chelmsford on Saturday (16 August) and V Festival Staffs on Sunday (17 August).
