22 July 2008
The winter festival will take place at various venues throughout the city from 30 October until 6 November, with more than 250 bands expected to play.
One of this year's breakthroughs Black Kids will headline Nation with support from Ladyhawke on Saturday, 1 November, and current chart topper Dizzee Rascal will play Liverpool University on Sunday, 2 November.
Hundreds more bands will be announced for Liverpool Music Week in the coming months, many of them up and coming bands from the north west.
This year looks set to be a special one as Liverpool celebrates its year of European Capital Of Culture status. The festival has just tied up a media deal with MTV, who will also be hosting their MTV Europe Awards from the city's Echo Arena on Thursday 6 November.
Mike Deane and James Barton co-directors of Liverpool Music Week said: "We are thrilled to announce our partnership with MTV, underlining just how far this festival has come since it's creation in 2003 we will celebrate this with the largest and most diverse LMW to date.
"With a mouth watering agenda of ticketed shows and the massive spread of free events all featuring the hottest new artists around and the most interesting line up to date, MTV LMW will have something for everyone. It is certainly the best means for all people of the city to come and be involved in the final major music highlight of this very special year."
