KISS, The Offspring and Lost Prophets are set to headline the festival,
which kicks off tomorrow morning (Friday 13 June) at Donington Park, in Leicestershire, and will run through until Sunday
(15 June).
But regulars of the rock and metal event have been using Internet messageboards to voice their opinions
on this year's line-up, which includes controversial acts such as grime star Lethal Bizzle and indie
bands Ash and The Subways.
While some have praised
Download for widening its scope, others have accused the festival of betraying its roots.
Speaking at the
traditional 'Boardies' party, which took place earlier this afternoon (12 June), Probyn said: "Before I start
I'd like to say the line-up had nothing to do with me," which received a loud cheer from the crowd.
They remained in excitable spirits after his introduction, though, with fans sticking around to check out Essex rockers
Forever Never.
Organisers have also changed the layout of the site with
all three main stages now outside of the Donington Park racetrack. The main stage is
now nestled in a natural amphitheatre, while the second stage will be an open-air arena for the first time ever.
Thousands arrived early to soak up the atmosphere and stake their places in the campsite, with a fairground and silent disco
set to run through until the early hours.
Virtual Festivals will be blogging live from the site
over the weekend. Check back for all the latest Download action.
