30 Seconds To Mars take off at Give It A Name

12 May 2008

The two bands were the main draws during a mixed day at the Sheffield leg of the rock and emo festival on Saturday (10 May).

30 Seconds To Mars closed the day at Sheffield Arena, arriving on stage dressed in their usual samurai attire where they were greeted with a sea of flashing camera phones.

The band ran through a set packed with songs from their second album 'A Beautiful Lie', with encore track 'The Kill', performed part acoustically, one of many highlights.

But even bigger cheers were reserved for Billy Talent, the arena packed with red Billy Talent flags and fans alike. The band played a set featuring hits such as ‘Fallen Leaves’ and ‘Red Flag’ and juggled interacting with their audience with a powerhouse performance on stage.

Glassjaw had the added pressure of performing on the main stage with all the other Give It A Name performers behind them. The screamo band spent more time facing their fellow performers than the crowd, but it didn’t stop the Sheffield crowd enjoying the set.

Other highlights from the day included Anti Flag, You Me At Six, Four Year Strong and a first ever UK show for Taking Back Sunday guitarist Fred Mascherino's new band, Colour Of Fred.

The bill moves down to London's Earls Court to do it all over again tomorrow (Sunday) with another rock bill heading to Sheffield.
