The Levellers to headline Glastonbury stage
United Kingdom | |
01 April 2008
The band, who previously headlined the Pyramid Stage back in 1994, will perform in support of Anti
Slavery International – the campaign continuing the fight against slavery and people trafficking.
The Levellers are also part of the bill at the Left
Field-organised Rock Against Racism 30th anniversary show at Brixton Academy on Wednesday, 30 April, along with Alabama
3, Misty in Roots, Tom Robinson, The Thirst and Tony Benn
– a show which is starting to look like an official Glastonbury warm-up.
As previously announced on Virtual Festivals,
Alabama 3 will headline the Left Field on the Friday.
Left Field Director Geoff
Martin says he’s delighted to have pulled The Levellers in as headliners on the opening night, as
they celebrate their 20th birthday.
He said: “I’ve been trying to hook the Lev’s
in at Left Field for some time now but busy schedules and other slots have always got in the way – I am dead chuffed
that we’ve got the band lined up for 2008 and with the guys celebrating 20 years on the streets it’s going to
be some night in support of Anti-Slavery International."
