Led Zep tribute band causes news chaos
United States | 07 February 2008
The inclusion of LeZ Zeppelin (note the 'Z') in the lineup for Bonnaroo Festival caused mass confusion as journalists scrambled to beat each other to break the story.
Associated Newspapers, Telegraph.co.uk and NME.com all published stories claiming that Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, Jon Paul Jones and Jason Bonham were set to play the US festival, following on from their reunion show at London's O2 Arena.
They had mistaken the name LeZ Zeppelin for the real version, despite the fact that it lingered down near the bottom of the bill.
Bonnaroo bosses then had the task of phoning around and asking those organisations to pull the story.
A spokesperson for the festival said: "We thought it would be a good idea (to have Lez Zeppelin play). We've had to make a lot of calls to correct this. It seems a lot of people were caught out by the press announcement."
