Meltdown 2003: Lee Scratch Perry to Curate

The legendary reggae and dub pioneer has been appointed 'Artistic Director' of the annual festival which takes place at London's South Bank Centre from 10 to 29 June. The full line-up will be announced soon.

Perry is the eleventh artist who has accepted the invitation to curate Meltdown since its inception in 1993.

Each year Meltdown offers a guest director the chance to produce his or her own fantasy festival, with previous artists who have put it together including David Bowie, Scott Walker and John Peel.

In a statement, Lee 'Scratch' Perry said: "Hello folks, lovely peoples of 2003. I am looking far-word to this festivity. We will celebrate with the music-makers from all over the world. Melting down sweet songs and evil beats. Love from the Open Door."
