Army band for Glastonbury and T In The Park?

The Pipes and Drums of the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards announced the news at the launch of a £1 million deal for Spirit of the Glen with Universal Music.

As well as interest from the festivals, the band have secured an American release and are set to tour the US next year.

Dickon Stainer, managing director of Universal Classics and Jazz, said: "This amount of interest for a new group is unprecedented - the UK seems to have gone bagpipe crazy."

It is not the first time the regiment has been at the centre of a musical storm. In 1972, the army band spent six weeks at number one with a recording of 'Amazing Grace'.

If the rumours are true it would be likely that the pipers would play an opening slot on one of the main stages at either festival.

Glastonbury traditionally hosts a big band-style performance on Sunday morning's Pyramid Stage, while T In The Park recently suggested they would be including more heritage and arts entertainment.
