Today: Best Line Up
It’s happening now. In mud-proof bunkers up and down the country
festival organisers are devising their masterplans, plotting which bands to wow you with next year and seeing if they’ve got
any change left from this summer to afford the Megabus down to this year’s UK Festival Awards.
Because, for the first time, we’ll be celebrating the festival that managed to attract the best line up of the
summer season. Clearly it’s all a matter of personal taste, which is why we’re asking you, but trust us when we
say that whoever wins this baby will be well made up. Why? Because festival bosses spend blood, sweat, tears and bundles of
cash to get their line up just right, often going head to head with one another to secure exclusive headliners.
The Killers, Smashing Pumpkins, Arcade Fire, Snow Patrol,
Daft Punk, Arctic Monkeys, The Rolling Stones... It really has been an
incredible year in terms of the world’s biggest bands playing festivals. And what about the newcomers? The Maccabees,
Kate Nash, Cold War Kids, Alberta Cross, Gallows, Simian
Mobile Disco, the list goes on.
We’ve picked out the ten festivals we reckon got their selection
bang on and now it’s down to you to vote for the best.
Will you go for the monolithic Carling Weekend, which moshed between the riotous punk of the Lock Up Stage to the epic sundown sounds of Kings Of Leon and Arcade Fire? Maybe the radio-humming rhythms of V Festival and Isle Of Wight Festival were more your thing, both attracting huge headliners such as Foo Fighters and Muse.
Of
course, it's impossible to ignore the all encompassing Glastonbury Festival, spanning legends like
Dame Shirley Bassey to aspiring stars such as Liz Green. A similar story
at T In The Park where festival goers could duck between young upstarts like Amy Macdonald
to musical greats such as Brian Wilson.
O2 Wireless Festival attracted arguably
its finest line up to date with Daft Punk and The White Stripes stealing the show, Global
Gathering once again kept punters dancing for days thanks to Basement Jaxx, Faithless,
Sasha and more, as did Rock Ness with its well programmed mix of dance and rock.
For the second year Latitude turned heads due to a rich blend of breaking acts and established names, while Rob Da Bank gave Bestival its traditional eclectic stamp.
