Paul McCartney for Electric Proms
The former Beatle will be joined by Kaiser Chiefs, Mark Ronson, Jamie Cullum and Sigur Ros during the five-night event, which takes place in various venues around Camden, London, from 24-28 October.
Speaking about his plans for the performance McCartney said: “I’m thinking of ideas as we speak. I probably won’t know exactly what I’m going to do until the week before.”
The legendary singer headlined Glastonbury Festival in 2004 but has played hardly any UK live shows since.
However, he recently released the critically acclaimed album 'Memory Almost Full', which is likely to feature in his show on 25 October.
Festival Director Lorna Clarke said: “It is a real coup to have a true legend and one of the world’s most creative artists performing for us at the festival. We are delighted that he has embraced the spirit of what the Electric Proms are all about – creating new moments in music – I can’t wait to hear what he has come up with.”
Artists playing the Proms are encouraged to perform collaborations and special one-off perfomances. Kaiser Chiefs have teamed up with film score guru David Arnold while Mark Ronson will be joined by members of the BBC Concert Orchestra.
Highlights of the second ever Electric Proms will be shown on BBC Two with full performances available to view on the BBC website.
Tickets will be on sale from 12 September with many more artists to be confirmed in the coming weeks.
