Shooting Stars shower at Bloom Festival?
United Kingdom | |
02 August 2007
The Earlies, Coldcut and Bugz In The Attic are among the acts playing the boutique festival near Bristol, but it's an act of nature that could prove the biggest draw.
On Sunday, 12 August, the Perseid meteor shower will hit earth and, at its height, a shooting star will apparently light up the night sky every few seconds.
The phenomenon occurs every year, but 2007 will be special because the arrival of the Perseids will coincide with a new moon.
Usually, moonlight makes it difficult for the human eye to pick out most of the individual meteors, but against a velvety-black sky the display is expected to be mind-blowing.
Bloom Festival, held in Dyrham Park in between Bristol and Bath, could be one of the best places to watch the sky spectacle (weather permitting, of course) due to it being located away from the lights of town and cities.
A spokesman for the festival said: "There is something magical about catching sight of a shooting star as it streaks across the night sky. So imagine the thrill of relaxing with friends after a perfect festival weekend and looking up to see dozens maybe hundreds of shooting stars as they rain down from the darkness."
Even without shooting stars Bloom Festival looks set to be a cracker. Its lineup also includes Soul II Soul, Aim, Mr Hudson & The Library, Cagedbaby and Crazy P.
