T in the Park speak out on disruption complaint

United Kingdom United Kingdom | 30 July 2007

Mike Barnacle the Kinross-shire Councillor had sent a letter to Tayside Police to alert them of grievances brought forward by residents from nearby villages mainly Balado and Carnbo.

Councillor Barnacle has asked for the event organisers and police to re-examine the traffic management plan for next year’s T in the Park after this year’s severe weather conditions left queues of traffic snaking from the site.

The letter requested that both parties should “engage in closer community liaison well before next year’s event” before stating: “Failure to do this should place a serious question mark over the future for T in the Park.”

The festival organisers, Big Day Out, said they will be discussing the problems in an event de-brief with Tayside Police and Perth and Kinross Council.  They also stated that the alleged terror attacks on Glasgow and London in addition to the parking problems that stemmed from heavy rainfall that week had put everything into disarray.

Despite the complaint a spokesperson for the festival said: “We put a great deal of time and effort into liaising with the local community” before adding “We do not want anyone to say we are not bothered about the effect on local communities, because we are.”

Big Day Out are letting Tayside Police reply to Councillor Barnacle’s letter.
