Eavis reveals acts for Glasto's new stage

08 May 2007

The Park, situated opposite the Other Stage and near to the Stone Circle, has been designed as a relaxing spot for those who have not necessarily pre-planned their festival experience.

Emily Eavis told The Guardian: "I really wanted it to be a late-night destination that wasn't too full-on, where people can go and relax."

Pianos will be scattered in front of the stage for people to gather around and there will be impromtu sets from acts already playing on other stages, including several big names, as well as aspiring acoustic acts.

Bands and artists already confirmed by Emily for The Park include Chas'N'Dave, Jamie T, Lou Rhodes, The Aliens, Kate Nash and Spiritualized. Saturday night will be given over to a surprise lineup going by the name of Africa Express.

Emily explained: "A lot of people don't want to be billed as doing a full set, but if they're there they want to play."

Plans for The Park were first revealed by Virtual Festivals several months ago. The land is being 'borrowed' from the adjacent Park Farm, which is where the Eavis' used to live and work until several generations ago when they moved to Worthy Farm.

The extra area has been introduced to deal with this year's increased capacity, with 177,500 people set to attend the festival. It's part of plans to make the event more involving for festival goers, with several new, interactive attractions set to be introduced. One such place will be a dedicated games area designed for people to "make friends and have fun".

The full lineup will be revealed in the first week of June but artists who have already declared themselves there include headliners The Killers, Arctic Monkeys and The Who, plus Arcade Fire, Bjork, Kasabian and many more.

The sold-out Glastonbury Festival takes place at Worthy Farm in Pilton, Somerset, from 22-24 June.
