The Who are the latest high profile act to be whispered as potential headliners for the June 2007 event.

The three-day festival promises to be packed with rock royalty to celebrate Glastonbury's return after it was rested for 2006.

Emily Eavis has previously told VF that there would be a lot of "old timers" and it seems that father Michael is keen for The Who to be part of his plans.

A source close to the festival is reported as saying: "Michael has approached Roger (Daltry) and said he wants The Who to play in 2007. Nothing has been agreed or signed at this stage, but Michael has asked the question and he hasn't been turned down.

"Michael always likes to have some kind of rock royalty at the festival and they don't come with better credentials than The Who."

Guitarist Pete Townshend has made no secret of The Who's desire to play the world-famous festival. Just a few months ago he wrote on his website: "(The) tour will last slightly over a year if I get my wish to end it next year at Glastonbury. Now that will be the show to watch. We should be warmed up by then."

However there are a number of other acts also being touted to headline, including Bruce Springsteen, Kylie, The Killers and Scissor Sisters, and Eavis has been as teasing and elusive as ever.

Just last week he said: "All I can tell you at this stage is whatever rumours you've heard, they're probably all true."

The lineup will be announced on 1 June with the festival taking place at Worthy Farm, Pilton, Somerset from 22-24 June 2007.
