Kaiser Chiefs Come Home To Leeds
United Kingdom | |
27 August 2006
Introduced by comedian Peter Kay, the band tore through all their hits, including 'I Predict A Riot', 'Modern Way' and 'Oh My God' and also showcased four new songs, 'Everything Is Average Nowadays', 'High Royds', 'Angry Mob' and 'Heat Dies Down'.
With the crowd singing along to every well known number, Wilson told them: "It is good to be home. Leeds you're in fine voice tonight. We have travelled all over the world and no matter where we go there is always a pocket of guys singing Yorkshire! Yorkshire!."
Franz Ferdinand followed as headliners, opening with 'This Boy', before playing tunes from their two albums, highlights including 'Matinee', 'Take Me Out' and 'The Fallen'.
Just like at Reading the previous day, the band were joined by celebrity drummers for encore track 'Outsiders', including members of Kaiser Chiefs and The Long Blondes.
Over on the NME/Radio 1 stage, Primal Scream played a greatest hits set but only after bassist Mani was released by police after he was arrested following an incident at the hotel the band were staying in.
Frontman Bobby Gillespie made a special dedication, telling the crowd: "We'd like to dedicate this next track 'Jailbird' to the Leeds' police force for arresting Mani again today."
It was all kicking off in the Lock Down Tent. Municipal Waste were trying to incite the crowd to rush the barrier and stag dive. Aptly named frontman Tony Guardrail shouted: "We hate this bullshit", before pointing to security and telling the crowd: "And they fucking hate you."
Lightyear followed with singer Chaz getting naked onstage and at one point doing a cover of the 'Old Grey Mare Song' from The Simpsons.
He later revealed to the crowd that they crashed Body Count's dressing room the previous night dressed as a pantomime horse.
Elsewhere at Leeds on Saturday, Yeah Yeah Yeahs singer Karen O got a fit of giggles midway through her set, while Fall Out Boy frontman Pete Wentz split his trousers and revealed to the crowd that he'd been considering going commando!
