Global Gigs To Beat Global Warming

Paul Morrison, who founded the Scottish mega-fest 13 years ago, and T In The Park chief Geoff Ellis met up in Japan last weekend to discuss the massive shows.

According to reports, the pair are confident of attracting the world's biggest acts to help raise environmental awareness, in a similar way to what Live8 did for the cause of global poverty last year.

The concerts are being backed by environmental organisation Global Cool, which was launched at the weekend to highlight the damage global warming is doing to the planet.

Its ambasadors, Hollywood actors Orlando Bloom and Kate Bosworth, met with the T In The Park team backstage at the Fuji Rock festival to discuss the plans.

It is understood that a full announcement will be made later in the year.

Meanwhile, Kasabian are the first band to throw their hat into the ring with a view to headlining next year's T In The Park.

Talking to Scotland's Daily Record singer Tom Meighan said: "We haven't talked to the organisers yet, but I can see it falling into place after the result we had at T this time around. We could play the NME stage but we might as well do the main stage. It would be mega for us to headline. We can take a 100,000 crowd anywhere, no hesitation. It is what we do.

"We have played T in the Park three times so it was like deja vu. We started out opening the NME stage a couple of years ago, so it would be from there to headlining in three years."
