Bestival brings NYC to IOW
04 July 2006
Bestival takes place at Robin Hill Country Park on 8-10 September. Buy tickets here.
Sasha is one of the biggest electronic DJs in the world thanks in part to his legendary Twilo residency in New York. He touches down on the Isle of Wight to play right after Scissor Sisters close the Main Stage on Sunday night and promises a very rare eclectic set, which is set to destroy the Bollywood Bar!
Another great coup for Bestival is Mark Ronson. Still riding high from the success of his Radiohead cover version of 'Just', the New York DJ/producer will grace the main stage on Friday with a full live band - one of just a couple of live shows this year.
Local faves The Bees return for their third year running, playing live in the Rock N Roll tent and DJing in the Fat Tuesday tent as The Bees Sound System. Their mates Motion Pictures have been strongly tipped as the next major breakout act from the island and they will also be playing the Main Stage.
Other acts just booked include The Hat, Love Is All and Matthew Herbert.
Rob da Bank stumbled across Brighton's The Hat busking at the first Bestival outside the Miniature Village. He doesn't know how they got there but they've since become one of Bestival's best loved resident acts, whether making up bizarre stories about plants with hearts or playing A Song For A Pound for whoever will cough up a quid and choose a suitable topic.
Sweden's Love Is All are one of the hottest indie properties doing the rounds after some blinding shows at South By Southwest, while musical maverick Matthew Herbert boasts a legendarily fun live show that will undoubtedly go down a storm in the Big Top.
Bestival is still to announce its Friday night headliner but acts already
confirmed include headliners Pet Shop Boys and Scissor Sisters, plus Devendra Banhart,
The Stranglers, Mystery Jets, King Creosote, Jim Noir,
Nathan Fake, The Young Knives, Hot Chip and many more. Click here for the full lineup or here for more info.
