V Festival heading to Canada

| 29 June 2006

Canada.com reports that Branson will be holding a press conference in Toronto tomorrow (Friday) to unveil the new festival.

Their sources claim the festival will be held on 9-10 September on Olympic Island, with The Flaming Lips, Gnarls Barkley, The Raconteurs and Clap Your Hands Say Yeah rumoured to be playing.

Virgin Mobile Canada would only say that the company will be making an announcement that will "rock the Canadian music scene."

Canada is currently seen as one of the big success stories in promoting homegrown acts to new markets. Broken Social Scene, Rufus Wainwright, Arcade Fire, and Metric are just a few of the artists and bands making it big abroad and the Canadian government has been praised for its proactive approach in exporting new music.

It now appears that the country wants to celebrate that fact by holding a major music festival. Watch this space...
