New festival to hit the South West!

United Kingdom United Kingdom | | 26 May 2006

Foundation Festival takes place at Shooters Bottom Farm, in the Mendip Hills, near Bristol, on 2-3 September.

The two-day camping festival will boast more than 150 live music acts, DJs, bands, magicians, street and theatre performers, dancers and artists from all cultures and walks of life.

Musically, the festival aims to tick every box of roots based dance music, leaving the superstar DJs at home and inviting real innovators of soul, house, hip-hop, funk, drum'n'bass and grime into the fold.

The first raft of confirmed acts also include Lethal Bizzle, Stanton Warriors, Scratch Perverts, The Egg, Nate James, Terri Walker, Sway, Digitonal, Pendulum, Hype, Mampi Swift, Mixmaster Morris, Babyhead, and more. Click here for the full lineup.

Two huge headliners for the main stage are expected to be announced in the coming weeks. The festival will also feature a new bands tent, a dance tent, and three other marquees of music.

Festival goers will be treated to much more than just music, with Chinese dragon dancers, bhangra bands, belly dancers, short films, cabaret acts and comedians among the treats being promised.

The underlying concept of Foundation Festival is to organise a music and arts festival which will explore and celebrate cultural diversity and freedom of expression, as well as exposing festival goers to alternative forms of entertainment.

It also aims to embrace the many diverse music scenes bubbling within Bristol and the South West and provide a springboard for those scenes to explode nationally.

Festival organiser Oliver Gurney told VF: "The festival was conceived with a clear mission statement: to inspire ideas and opportunities for visitors and performers long into the future, while also having a lasting and positive cultural effect on the surrounding area. We felt it was our own personal responsibility to support good causes in order to bring about change for future generations, and give people a damn good time doing it.”

Foundation Ferstival has a strong charity message and will be donating 15 per cent of its profits to Oxfam, Shelter and War Child.

Tickets are on sale now, priced £100 for a weekend camping ticket. Click here to buy.
