Finland's Lordi, having just won the Eurovision Song Contest with their arockalyptic anthem 'Hard Rock Hallelujah', will return to the festival to play the Gibson Guitar/MySpace.com stage prior to Sickofitall on Sunday 11 June.
Lordi made their Download debut last year and 2006 sees their only UK appearance. Also added this week are Californian extreme outfit Wicked Wisdom (fronted by Hollywood actress Jada Pinkett-Smith), who play the main stage on Friday 9th June. The same day sees French metallers Gojira (formerly Godzilla) rock the Snickers Stage with the unconventionally-named [Colon Open Bracket] on the Gibson/Myspace.com (Third) Stage on the Saturday.
In other Download news, the 2006 site-plan will be available to view on the official website from Wednesday 24 May. In a move to enable Download 2006 to provide increased camping space, car parking will now be available across the A453. Buses will be provided to transport guests onto site, and a pedestrian bridge is currently being built over the A453 for improved festival access. As previously reported, 2006 boasts approximately double the amount of camping of last year, extended opening times and some serious on-site activity (stay posted).
There will also be public internet access and secure charging points for phones, iPods, cameras, laptops and other electronic items. And if you thought that was innovative, Download will - for the first time ever - be bringing metallers and pear cider together. Could be messy.
All campsite spaces and day tickets for Saturday 10 June are now sold out and the final day tickets for Friday 9 June and Sunday 11 June have just been released and are available to buy now here.
