Placebo and Goldfrapp for Isle Of Wight

Placebo will co-headline the Friday night alongside The Prodigy, who were recently voted 'best festival dance act' in the UK Festival Awards. Goldfrapp will play earlier on the bill.

The Isle Of Wight Festival 2006 takes place from Friday 9 June - Sunday 11 June at Seaclose Park, Newport.

More bands will of course be annoounced in the coming months but weekend tickets are already on sale priced £85 (£105 with camping). Under 12s go half price. Click here to buy.

2006 will mark the fifth event since the festival's reincarnation in 2002, during which time the likes of David Bowie, R.E.M, Faithless, The Who, Supergrass, Razorlight, Travis and The Magic Numbers have appeared.

The Isle of Wight Festivals at the end of the 1960's were a series of legendary events featuring Bob Dylan, The Who, Free, The Doors, Joni Mitchell, Jefferson Airplane culminating in 1970 with 600,000 hippies descending on the island to see Jimi Hendrix perform his penultimate concert. The event has played a major part in shaping the music festivals we know today and was the European answer to Woodstock.
