Supergroup finale for The Rakes at Reading

28 August 2005
Members of Bloc Party, Maximo Park, and Towers Of London jumped to the
cause of the blighted band, whose vocalist fell ill after arriving at Leeds Festival on Friday.
The band played
on the NME/Radio 1 Stage earlier this afternoon and got a hero's welcome from the Reading crowd, which has swelled in numbers
for the final day.
First up was Bloc Party guitarist Russell Lissack, who played on 'Terror!', before being joined
by his bandmate, singer Kele Okereke, for 'Strasbourg'.
Maximo Park's Paul Smith then helped out, reading his
words from a small red notebook he'd scribbled the lyrics to in earlier..
Kele and Towers Of London singer Donny Tourette then
dueted on final number, '22 Grand Job' with Paul and members of Art Brut also joining in for an onstage dance!
Elsewhere
on the NME/Radio 1 Stage today (Sunday), the standout sets came from Sons & Daughters and Maximo Park,
while on the Main Stage Incubus stole the show with a collosal set of classics and new tracks, finishing with
a cover of Prince's 'Let's Go Crazy'. Marilyn Manson is currently playing to a packed Main Stage arena, but it's Iron
Maiden who everyone's waiting to see, with thousands of vintage Maiden t-shirts filling the festival site.
