The rumours can now be put to rest after Michael Eavis told XFM who would be playing. The Killers, Scissor Sisters, The Cure, Faithless, and Stevie Wonder were all rumoured at one time to be filling the slot.
The festival boss said: "So I asked three headliners that could've headlined the Sunday night,
but in the end all of them said they couldn't for various reasons. And you can't blame them, it was Kylie's slot, and maybe
they wondered why I hadn't asked them in the first place!
"We've moved Basement
Jaxx up to the top and we've got Primal Scream doing their Greatest Hits set in penultimate place. They're a favourite band
of mine, so it's a bit of an indulgence I have to say. I think it'll be great fun. I'm really
looking forward to it".
Asked about the rumours that The Stone Roses had been approached to play and closely considered a sensational reunion, Eavis said: "I spoke to Ian Brown about that, in fact he called up actually. I asked him 'What are the chances of getting John on board and getting everyone back together? Mani and everyone.' And he said 'Not really'. I said that I thought the rest of the band were really keen, and he said, 'Yeah, but I haven't spoken to John for nine years and to suddenly get back onstage together and start playing, its not going to happen. I tried really hard, and tried to make that happen."
