The Worthy Farm owner received a phone call from the company's London office confirming the accolade, which was announced
at a prestigious presentation in Los Angeles last Friday (February 4).
According to Eavis, the Glastonbury Festival
has a popular following in America and each year sells video footage of the event to some of the country's largest broadcasters.
Attributing their interest to the "old greenfield syndrome" he said: "The yanks all know where
we are over here. This is a great accolade and a great tribute for a lifetime's work."
Last year, Glastonbury picked
up gongs for 'Best Major Festival' and 'Most Innovative Festival' in the first ever UK Festival Awards.
It is the
first time Glastonbury Festival has been recognised with an award by Pollstar, which each year honours
those whose contributions have enhanced the live music experience.
Previous winners have included Prince
(for most creative stage production), the Royal Albert Hall, London (for the best international small
venue of the year), and Wembley Arena, London (for best international large venue of the year).
Glastonbury Festival 2005 takes place at Worthy Farm, Pilton, from 24-26 June. Kylie, The White Stripes, Coldplay and New Order are among those hotly rumoured to be playing. CLICK HERE for more.
