According to NME, festival promoter Mean Fiddler has already confirmed the three headline slots for the two August
bank holiday weekend events. Mean Fiddler says otherwise.
A source told NME: "They've bagged Pixies' only UK shows next year, and there's a chance they could be their last ever in Britain. It's an open secret that Foo Fighters are playing as well."
Pixies last headlined Reading back in 1990 and according to the NME's source it could be their last UK gig ever.
Iron Maiden have also played Reading before, in 1980 and 1982. Their inclusion would be music to the ears of traditional heavy rock fans.
Foo Fighters are the least surprising rumour, having filled top spot at Reading/Leeds before in 2002 and returning this summer with a new double album. Dave Grohl's band also top the bill of the Oxegen festival in Ireland.
However Mean Fiddler has denied the reports. An official spokesman for the festivals said: "It's all rumours. Nothing has been confirmed yet. An official announcement will be made some time soon, probably at the end of March."
Tickets are also likely to go on sale in March. The Carling Reading/Leeds Festival takes place simultaneously at Richfield Avenue, Reading, and Bramham Park, Leeds, over the weekend of 26-28 August 2005.
