U2 tour leaves Glastonbury open to possibility!
24 January 2005
Dates for the 'Vertigo' tour have just been announced, with the band playing June shows
at the City Of Manchester Stadium, Glasgow's Hampden Park, Cardiff's
Millennium Stadium and Twickenham Stadium in London. Tickets will be available to buy on
Virtual Festivals from 9am this Friday (28 January).
Worth noting is the fact that the band play Dublin's Croke Park on Friday 24 June, before having a five day break before their next show in Cardiff - interestingly over the same weekend as the Glastonbury Festival (24-26 June).
U2 were rumoured to be headlining Glastonbury after Michael Eavis told Virtual Festivals that he was close to booking them. CLICK HERE for more.
The band's management then denied the story claiming it would interfere with their world tour. However, the gap between Dublin and Cardiff dates is one of the longest in the entire European tour schedule, with most shows taking place every other day.
It would leave U2 free to play a Sunday night headline slot at Glastonbury and still have two days turn around either side.
The 'Vertigo' tour kicks off on March 28 at the San Diego Sports Arena in America. Reports estimate that the tour will be the highest earning jaunt of 2005, with the band expected to make in excess of $250 million from approximately 110 concerts. The European dates start later in June.
He said: "We're exploring technology where it might be possible to download the show you've
just seen. We've been talking to iTunes and the folks at Apple, with whom we have a great relationship, but it's not quite
there yet. We're certainly looking at it."
