The 46-year-old injured his his leg after falling from the stage during a show in Gothenburg, Sweden last night (June 12).

The rest of the band remained on stage and played cover versions while Grohl received medical attention.

"I think I just broke my leg," Grohl said, lying on the ground next to the stage. "I'm going to go to hospital. I'm going to fix my leg. And then I'm going to come back. You have my promise right now that the Foo Fighters - we're going to come back and finish the show."

Dave Grohl later returned, about an hour later with his leg in bandages, to complete the set as promised. “I’m sorry.” He told the Gothenburg crowd once more, “I got too excited.”

The US rock band are due to play Pinkpop Festival in The Netherlands tomorrow. Organisers say they are in contact with the Foo Fighters team but no official announcement or decision has been made yet as to how, or if, the show will go ahead.

Referring to their forthcoming tour dates during the show in Sweden, Grohl said: "I feel sorry for .. what's the next one? I feel sorry for Pinkpop. I May not be bootable to walk or run but I can still play guitar and scream."

This month the band are also scheduled to play Wembley Stadium, BT Murrayfield Stadium, and finally Worthy Farm to headline the Friday night of Glastonbury Festival 2015.

Faced with the realistic prospect of playing in a cast, or even sat down as he was last night, everyone at Virtual Festivals wishes Dave ’the nicest man in rock’ Grohl a speedy recovery.
