Radiohead collaboration for Ether Festival
Greenwood
will perform as part of two nights hosted by contemporary classical outfit The London Sinfonietta,
which has cultivated a starring role at the festival over the last two years, having already collaborated
with Aphex Twin, Squarepusher, and Boards Of Canada.
The two
concerts will feature new music penned by Greenwood and Thom Yorke, as well as pieces by pioneering
classical composers Ligeti, Penderecki, and Messiaen - especially
chosen by Greenwood as music that has inspired Radiohead.
Radiohead TV will also be screened throughout the night, featuring video, animations and music
from the band's 'Hail To The Thief' album, as well as some unreleased tracks.
The fortnight-long festival aims to highlight the similar influence that have shaped different genres
- from rock to classical to urban - and merge them in a series of experimental collaborations. A spokesman
said: "The Ether Festival celebrates the work of artists opening up new worlds of live performance through experiments
with new technologies."
Dizzee Rascal, Tony Allen,
and Matmos are some of the other artists already confirmed. The complete line-up will be announced on
Virtual Festivals soon. The Ether Festival takes place over a number of evenings between 15-28
March 2005 at London's South Bank Centre.
