The 21-year-old underwent five hour surgery the following Tuesday, where a metal plate was fitted into his jaw.

A friend of Cook's, speaking to the Epsom Guardian, said that the attack was “unprovoked” and that the perpetrators were not festival goers, but knocked down a fence in order to assault the unfortunate, who was alone in the campsite. "He doesn’t understand why they knocked down a fence to do it, “ says Cook's friend, Mr O'Brien. "He wouldn’t hurt a fly and will get on with anyone who will get on with him.

It is believed that three offenders were involved in this assault. If anyone has any information about this incident they should call Hertfordshire Police on 101, quoting crime reference number G1/14/1678 – or, if you don’t want to give your name, you can call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

The police currently have 60 reported crimes to deal with from the event, a large number being reported theft – although many of these may have been simple misplacements of lost property. “The biggest problems we face at events such as these are the overwhelming numbers of lost phones, wallets or purses that have now been recovered,” says superintendent Simon Hawkins, who was in charge of planning for the event. “However, it is highly likely that these people may have lost their personal property or it dropped from their pocket or bag.”

If you did lose anything at the Sonisphere festival then please email Herts Police at sonisphere@herts.pnn.police.uk.

Sonisphere 2014 took place between July 4-6 at Knebworth, Hertfordshire. The 40th anniversary Knebworth event saw performances from The Prodigy, Iron Maiden and Metallica.
