Ryan Smith, 23 from Grangemouth in Scotland, was refused entry to the Scottish festival after security staff found £400 worth of class A narcotics hidden in his tub of hair cream, according to STV.

Smith was arrested after he was stopped and then searched trying to enter the T In The Park campsite on the Friday evening and found to be in possession of five separate wraps of cocaine.

He admitted possession at the time and heard in court how his attempt to hide the drugs had been rumbled because security staff had seen similar attempts previously. He clearly didn't think the charges would stick.

Procurator Fiscal Depute Stuart Richardson said: "This was about 6pm on the Friday evening at the start of the festival. Mr Smith arrived to try and gain entry to the campsite.

"He had a rucksack with him and was advised it would be searched. They found a tub of hair cream. They had seen this before at T in the Park and it made them suspicious.

"They delved in and found five separate bags containing cocaine mixed up with another substance. The total value of the cocaine £400. I presume he was effectively chucked out."

Defending solicitor Billy Somerville, told the court that Smith had recently started a new job and was in a position to pay a fine.

Sheriff Lindsay Foulis told Smith he was "just stupid".

Smith is certainly not the first person to be caught trying to smuggle drugs into a festival. T In The Park work closely with police and security staff to ensure offenders are caught and prosecuted.

In 2012, Scottish Police seized a reported £25k worth of drugs at the festival, including twenty grams of ectasy, nearly 50 grams of speed, 151 diazepam tablets, quarter kilo of cocaine and a half kilo of grass and cannabis resin.

Betting shop worker Michelle Doherty, 28, from Glasgow, claimed in court she tried to smuggle drugs into T in the Park in her glasses case to “fit in” with other revellers.
