A post on the BST Hyde Park Facebook page yesterday revealed a countdown conundrum that would have Rachel Riley scoffing.

The rumour is now circulating that British Summer Time are to announce Black Sabbath to open their festival series this summer on Friday July 4th.

The band, if announced, would join an odd pair of dates already set in the calendar: McBusted on Sunday July 6 and Neil Young & Crazy Horse on Saturday July 12.

Midland metal legends, Black Sabbath first formed in 1968 and, after spells apart and working under different line-ups, the original four members, Iommi, Butler, Osbourne, and Ward, announced plans in 2011 to reunite and tour a new album.

Plans were scuppered when Ward, citing issues with the reunion contract, decided not to continue and Iommi was then diagnosed with cancer which forced the band to cancel a number of high profile international shows.

'13', their first record since 1995's 'Forbidden' and first with Ozzy since 1978's 'Never Say Die!', was released late last year and went straight to number one in nine countries. Touring has continued for the band, with Tommy Clufetos stepping in on drumming duties, and the band are already confirmed for festival dates in France, Belgium and Austria this summer.

One fan has suggested the announcement will be made this Sunday, March 30. Watch this space.

Tickets for the other two Barclaycard British Summer Time shows are still available and currently on sale at the following prices:

Sunday 6 July: McBusted, Backstreet Boys, Scouting for Girls, Diversity, The Vamps, Lawson, 5ive and more - £49.50 plus £5.45 booking fee
