Megadeth are the third of the 'Big Four' bands to play Bloodstock Open Air after Slayer and Anthrax both played the event. Metallica are the final band from the proverbial 'big four' thrash metal acts to still play the festival.

Dave Mustaine said: “2014 is the 20th Anniversary for ‘Youthanasia’, and we are celebrating that by headlining the Bloodstock Festival in the glorious UK.  Every year Megadeth and our UK fans get closer and celebrate another year of metal greatness together. This is the beginning of 2014...the best is yet to come.”

Forming in California thirty years ago, Megadeth went on to sell more than 50 million records worldwide, including the Platinium certified  'Peace Sells... but Who's Buying?', 'So Far, So Good... So What!', 'Rust in Peace' and 'Youthanasia'.

Megadeth are the final headliner to be announced for Bloodstock Open Air 2014, which returns to Catton Park, Derbyshire next summer, from 7th-10th August.

Down and Emperor will, respectively, headline the Friday and Saturday night of the festival, alongside a bill that already includes Flotsam and Jetsam, Decapitated and Saxon.

Dozens more acts are expected to be announced in the coming months as the festival gears up for its 14th edition.

A limited number of early bird Bloodstock Open Air tickets are available now, priced at £115 (plus £7 booking fee) for a full weekend (four nights), with child tickets available at a reduced rate for those aged 11 and under, priced at £35 (plus a £4 booking fee).
