New Orleans legends and kings of the filthy riff Down have been confirmed as the second headliner to grace Bloodstock's James Dio Stage in 2014. The southern sludge-metal supergroup will be headlining the stage on the Friday following the release of the second part in their EP series 'Down IV - Part 2'.

Ex-Pantera/Superjoint Ritual current Down frontman Phil Anselmo has said "We are more than elated to be a part of BLOODSTOCK FESTIVAL this coming year! This should be a blast, and I hope everyone shows up to support this great event!"

Ex-Goatwhore/Crowbar and relatively newly appointed Down Bassist, Pat Bruders added, “I’m looking forward to another great time at Bloodstock Festival! When I was there two years ago with Crowbar, it was a blast! Down is getting ready to tear it up at Bloodstock in 2014, so get ready people! Let’s bring it!!!!!"

They join previously announced Norweigan black-metallers Emperor who will be headlining the Saturday.

Bloodstock Open Air will return to Catton Hall, Derbyshire on 7-10 August 2014.

The event, Britain's premier independent heavy metal music festival, has been going strong since 2005, birthed out of the smaller, indoor Bloodstock Festival, which begaqn in 2001.

Previous headliners of the festival include Lacuna Coil, Nightwish, Cradle Of Filth, Twisted Sister, Motorhead, Behemoth, Machine Head and Alice Cooper.

Last year's Bloodstock was headlined by King Diamond, Lamb Of God and Slayer. You can catch up with all of our Bloodstock 2013 coverage here.

A limited run of Early Bird tickets are available now, priced at £115 (plus £7 booking fee) for a full weekend (four nights), with child tickets available at a reduced rate for those 11 and under, priced at £39.
