Bestival to party with Lionel Richie 'All Night Long'?

Help bring Lionel Richie's head to Bestival 2013

Matt Miles - 11 June 2013

Bring me (the head of) the Disco King, Lionel Richie, is what they'll all sing. Anyone dissapointed that the Motown crooner, and frontman to the Commodores, is not due to appear in person at the festival should dry those tears. LIONEL RICHIE IS COMING TO BESTIVAL!! Well his head is at least.

The giant party piece can transport you literally inside the mind of Richie. The inflatable will be the first of its kind at a UK festival and will make a big impression at Bestival, which celebrates its 10th birthday this September. Organisers have however warned there is to be no dancing on the ceiling (least not with shoes on).

An art collaborative known as Hungry Castle, made up of Dave Glass and Kill Cooper, have made a name creating large-scale works inspired by internet pop culture. Their current project happens to be a 3m tall inflatable Lionel Richie head that they plan to bring to Bestival this year. But they need your help, they need to reach their funding goal of £4,900 to make it happen. It is a surreal and interesting campaign and the Kickstarter for it has already received a great deal of attention.

Want something even better than a 3m tall Lionel Richie head? Then help Hungry Castle reach their stretch goal of £10,000 and they will make a 6m tall head. That is double the size Lionel fans! Those lucky enough to encounter the gargantuan 6m head will have the opportunity to one at a time enter the head. Inside they will be greeted by a ringing phone, when they lift the handset they will hear "Hello? Is it me you’re looking for?”.

Already well on their way to achieving their first funding goal it is highly likely that Lionel Richie’s head will make an appearance at Bestival this year, but with your help we can make the epic 6m version happen. There are plenty of incentives to donate, starting with VIP access to the head for just £3 all the way up to VIP tickets to Bestival 2013, passes to Josie Da Bank's VIP artist bar and the opportunity for you and a friend to camp inside Lionel Richie's head for one night if you donate £1000. I assure you that you did not just misread that last sentence: "you'll be alone inside Lionel's mind, in your dreams he may kiss your lips a thousand times. Hello, it is definitely Lionel's inflatable head you're looking for!"

For more information and to get involved funding the project here is the Kickstarter:

Bestival fully endorses the project going as far as running the story themselves on their homepage. Fatboy Slim, Snoop Dogg (Snoop Lion) and Elton John will headline the three day festival, and be joined by a host of acts including M.I.A., Franz Ferdinand, The Flaming Lips, The Knife, Wu-Tang Clan, Carl Cox and Annie Mac presents.

Bestival 2013 takes place from 5-8 September on Robin Hill Country Park, Isle of Wight and the fancy dress loving, family-friendly festival will celebrate its 10th anniversary this year.
