2,000 feet up, Kasabian entertained probably the highest stage in their 16-year history, against an icy piste in the Austrian mountains, during the late hours of yesterday (April 4) evening.

'Days Are Forgotten' kicked off a short but hit-heavy set from the Leicester lads. The stripped back performance, billed optimistically as acoustic, still needed a seven strong team, dressed almost entirely in thermals, gloves and furry hats.

Frontman Tom Meighan was typically brief in his spells addressing the gathered few, joking about "trying to find Jaws" and losing his fingers to the cold. 'Underdog' was one tune didn't lose any of the ballsy bravado in the ice cool atmosphere though, and it had everyone in unison for one of many sing-a-longs.

In temperatures dropping quickly to around minus 8C, Meighan looked bemused as warm bottles of water were passed his way, while guitarist Sergio Pizzorno, in white Arctic jacket and trademark Soviet-era hat, stopped to top up his mulled wine.

'Re-Wired' was another fierce re-imagining of a blasting psych-rock number from their 2010 LP 'Velociraptor!'. Amongst the hits, a cover of Supertramp’s 'Breakfast In America' was a toasty, warm treat during a once-in-a-lifetime performance from the four-piece who last year headlined Reading and Leeds Festivals.

The crowd of just 300, one of their smallest in years, were in fine singing voice for 'Fire' and a cover of 'Praise You' which made a tasteful nod to Snowbombing stalwart Norman Cook before it segued into ‘L.S.F.’.

"We've been Snow Patrol, have a good night," Meighan joked as a procession of fireworks lit up the stage on the quickly dimming mountain side.

"See you tomorrow, you bastards," Sergio uttered, as the band quickly slipped away to prepare themselves for their festival topping finale at the Snowbombing Forest Party tonight (April 5).
