The Rolling Stones to play Hyde Park and Glastonbury in 2013?

Chris Swindells - 14 March 2013

The perennial Glastonbury rumour, showbiz411 have reported that The Rolling Stones will play two shows in London’s Hyde Park, which they claim could be on July 6th and July 13th. The website also claimed their insider sources have confirmed Glastonbury Festival will feature as part of their touring plans: "The rumours about Glastonbury are apparently true as well. My sources say it’s a go."

The US entertainment website, which originally started on The Hollywood Reporter, also claims that The Stones are to play 18 dates in arenas across the US, starting on the West Coast, stopping in Philadelphia and finishing in New York.

AEG Live are allegedly contracted to stage the London shows, which would roughly fit with their 'Barclaycard British Summer Time' shows, due to take place at Hyde Park this summer. So far Bon Jovi is the only artist confirmed to play Hyde Park this summer, with five more headline shows expected to be announced shortly.

The Rolling Stones have long been rumoured for a headline set at Glastonbury Festival 2013. Kasabian suggested in an interview last week that Jagger & co. will headline Glasto, when guitarist Serge Pizzorno said: "I hope ours is the most talked about performance of the weekend, but that would be a miracle because The Rolling Stones are playing Glastonbury."

Ronnie Wood, when asked recently about playing Glastonbury for the first time, replied: "I want to do it badly, but I've no idea yet ... but I am just looking forward to. ... I know we're the best live, so I just hope we get it."

Arctic Monkeys are the only act that look likely at this point to headline the event, which takes place at Worthy Farm, Somerset from June 26-30 2013. The Glastonbury Festival rumour mill has also thrown up the less likely pairing of Rihanna and Prince.

Alt-J are amongst a handful of acts who have confirmed themselves for the Glastonbury Festival line-up, which is due to be announced in full in early April.

All tickets for Glastonbury Festival 2013, estimated to be approximately 140,000 in number, sold out after one hour and 40 minutes last year. The remaining balance payment on tickets for UK residents need to be paid in full between April 2-8. A resale date has been confirmed for Sunday 21 April, when a limited number of cancelled tickets will go back on sale.
