Rihanna to headline Glastonbury Festival 2013?

Chris Swindells - 17 February 2013

The Barbadian pop star, famed for hits like 'Umbrella' and 'We Found Love', is allegedly in talks to play on the Sunday night of the festival, and has said she'll rock the main stage. Dates in Zurich however scupper the rumours as the singer plays the Saturday (June 29) and Sunday (30) night in Switzerland, leaving only the Friday night free in her schedule.

One unnamed source told the Daily Star Sunday: “She is the perfect choice. Beyonce stole the show two years ago and there’s no reason Rihanna can’t do the same.

“She’s got a huge back catalogue and is undoubtedly the biggest female artist around at the moment bar Adele.”

At the start of 2011, in an interview with Q magazine, she said: "I'd love to play Glastonbury. I have heard so many things about what happens there.

"I love rock music. I love Kings Of Leon and The Prodigy. You could have nightmares about that guy with the clown face and the weird hair. That's a look to scare little kids, right?"

Arctic Monkeys are also in the frame to headline the Friday night on the Pyramid Stage, which would see them returning to headline for the first time since doing it back in 2007. Kings of Leon, Lady Gaga and The Rolling Stones have all been linked to the top festival spot, the latter allegedly offer £1million to headline, but as yet no headline act has been confirmed. Malian singer Rokia Traoré is the only act officially confirmed for the festival as they confirmed bands from the war torn country of Mali will open the Pyramid Stage on each day of the festival.

Glastonbury Festival 2013 takes place on Worthy Farm, Somerset from June 26-30.

Rihanna is lined up to headline T In The Park this summer and has previously headlined V Festival, Wireless and Radio 1's Hackney Weekend.

All tickets for Glastonbury Festival 2013, estimated to be approximately 140,000 in number, sold out after one hour and 40 minutes last year. A resale date has been confirmed for Sunday 21 April, when a limited number of cancelled tickets will go back on sale.
