Eminem to headline Reading and Leeds Festivals 2013

Eminem joins the 2013 Reading & Leeds festival line-up

Chris Swindells - 10 December 2012

Zane Lowe confirmed the 40-year-old rapper will headline the festivals next August during his BBC Radio One show tonight (December 10). Eminem last played Reading and Leeds back in 2001, after the release of 'The Marshall Mathers LP' which featured hits 'Stan' and 'Real Slim Shady'. Marilyn Manson also joined the hip hop star on stage for a rendition of their hit single 'The Way I Am'.

The rapper, also known by his alter ego Slim Shady or his birth name Marshall Mathers, joins the previously announced Deftones, Alt-J, Sub Focus and Boy Better Know - a rap and hip hop collective which features JME, Skepta and Wiley, at Reading & Leeds 2013. In a shake-up across both festival sites there will be the introduction of two brand new stages, the BBC Radio One Dance Stage and BBC Radio 1xtra stage, both with a three day line-up across Reading and Leeds Festivals 2013.

Reading Festival 2013 will take place in Richfield Avenue, Reading from 23-25 August 2013 with access to the campsite from Thursday 22nd August and early entry access from Wednesday 21st. Leeds Festival 2013 will take place in Bramham Park, Wetherby, Leeds over the same weekend with similar early access arrangements.

Festival boss Melvin Benn has been planning these exciting changes and additions to the festivals over the past year, he said: “This is a dynamic time for the festivals. Not only do we have a fresh look for next year, but we are also adding to the fans’ experience of the festival with the introduction of more stages and genres of music, which also inevitably means an increase in the number of artists playing across the weekend.

“The addition of the hip-hop stage and the extension of the dance line-up to a three day stage - whilst not losing the essence of what Reading & Leeds Festivals are about across the existing Main, NME/Radio 1, Festival Republic and Lock Up Stages - are the things that really excite me."

Across both sites there will be more live acts on the line-up. At Reading Festival the arena will be expanded by approximately a quarter and a second arena entrance will be created to ensure easier access for festival goers. At Leeds Festival the site will be altered slightly so that fans will be able to explore the woods for late night entertainment, with details yet to be announced, so stay tuned for further updates.

Reading and Leeds Festival 2013 tickets are on sale now, with a limited amount priced at 2012 prices (£197.50 plus booking fee for a weekend ticket) until Monday 31 December 2012.

The festivals will also be introducing a £50 deposit scheme for 2013, meaning fans can guarantee a place at the bash early and pay the full balance before March 31, 2013.

There is currently no news about the other two headliners still to be announced for Reading and Leeds Festivals 2013. Black Sabbath, Blur, Arctic Monkeys and Green Day have all been rumoured to headline the twinned festivals next August.
