Fleetwood Mac to play European festivals in 2013?

Chris Swindells - 04 December 2012

Fleetwood Mac have long been linked to a headline performance at Glastonbury Festival 2013 and new comments made by the singer give fresh hope that the band will play the festival, celebrating its 42nd year next June.

In an interview with Rolling Stone, Stevie Nicks said: "It's the perfect time to go back out, 2013 is going to be the year of Fleetwood Mac."

So far only 35 US dates, stretching from April 4th - June 12th, have been announced, but comments made in the interview suggest the group are planning on touring further afield in 2013. "If everything goes will we'll be in Europe doing festivals this summer," said Nicks.

During the interview Lindsey Buckingham also speculated as to how a set-list might be formed for their 2013 shows. "We always have to play 'Dreams,' 'Rhiannon,' 'Don't Stop,' 'Tusk,' 'Big Love,' 'Landslide' and all our most famous songs," Buckingham said, adding. "When you've gone through all your must-do's, that's 75% of your potential setlist. I think with the other 25%, there are areas of our catalog that are more under-explored. Maybe we'll play more songs from Tusk. I'd also like to see an extended middle portion of the show that's just me and Stevie. This is just me talking from the top of my head. For now, I have no particular vision of what this tour is going to be."

The Rolling Stones are another favourite to headline Glastonbury 2013, and the band went so far as to label the festival an 'interesting proposition' back in October.

The band, celebrating their 50th anniversary this year, have never played the festival but sources close to both parties suggest for the first time that the elusive booking might be on the cards for 2013.

Glastonbury Festival 2013 takes place on 26-30 June 2013 at Worthy Farm, Pilton.

Glastonbury Festival tickets for 2013 sold out in record time on October 7th, a re-sale date for tickets which haven't been paid off in full will take place in April 2013, on a date still to be confirmed. Glastonbury Festival registration is now open and anyone hoping to get their tickets in the re-sale next year must be registered in advance.

In an interview in NME back in October, co-organiser Emily Eavis refuted rumours that The Smiths would reform to play, saying: "There are no talks happening with The Smiths. It's good to rule these ones out because every year it's always the same ones rumoured." Eavis also said that whilst hip-hop acts would feature on the line-up, as always, they were unlikely to provide one of next year’s headliners.
