**Update August 25th** Green Day are now set to play the NME/Radio 1 stage at Reading Festival at 11am. So get there quick campers! The statement was made via singer Billie Joe Armstrong's official Twitter account this morning.
The message, (from @BJAofficial) was tweeted at approximately 10.20am and read: "Green Day - READING FESTIVAL CONFIRMED!! On stage in 45 minutes! In the NME / RADIO 1 tent. 11am!! Be there!"
**Update August 22nd** Green Day have now basically confirmed that they will play at Reading Festival this weekend. The pop-punk band will most likely play seminal 1994 album 'Dookie' in full during a special performance, believed to be on the Radio 1/NME Stage on Friday or Saturday, though exact day, time and stage details have not yet been revealed.
Speaking on Zane Lowe's Radio 1 show this evening, when singer/guitarist Billie Joe Armstrong was asked what his favourite Green Day album was, he knowingly answered:
"I think if there were any rumours that we were playing Reading, playing ‘Dookie’ from front to back would be pretty cool. That would be a novel idea."
Last weekend, a t-shirt picture leaked onto the internet and a Billie Joe Armstrong Instagram post suggested that Green Day were set to play the festival, with rumours fuelled further when a London date was announced for this Thursday.
During the broadcast, in which they premiered tracks from their upcoming trio of albums, 'iUno!', 'iDos!' and 'iTre!', the band also said that a full UK Tour will take place next year, with a date at the Emirates Stadium in London set for 1 June 2013.
**Update August 20th** Green Day have announced a one-off London show this Thursday (August 23th),
again fuelling the rumour they are to play Reading Festival 2012 this weekend. The date at London's Shepherds Bush Empire on Thursday
at 7pm would support the tour t-shirt image below which lists a show in London and Reading.
There will be an exclusive
presale through the official Green
Day fan club, Idiot Club for the show, starting 21 August at 9:00am.
Public onsale will start 21 August at 12:00pm.
**Update August 19th**
Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong has fuelled rumours the band will play Reading Festival
by posting a picture on his
Instagram profile with the caption: "Hello England! What rhymes with shredding ??!!"
The picture was posted
at 2.06 am 8/19/2012 and shows Armstrong
playing the guitar.
There has been no official word from either the Green Day or Reading Festival camp on the rumour. The t-shirt design
below surfaced online last week and was reportedly on sale at a Green Day live show in Japan. The dates it lists all tally with shows the band have officially confirmed,
including Summer Sonic Festival in Osaka, Japan and Rock en Seine in France.

There are currently no unknown slots on the Reading Festival 2012 line-up, however there is one less act playing on Saturday
and Sunday on the NME/Radio One Stage than there is on Friday.
The shirt also suggests Green Day will play a show in London between their show at Summer Sonic in Japan on August
19th and Reading Festival 2012, however no further news or information has emerged about this show.
Green Day formed in 1987 and last played Reading Festival
in 2004. In April of this year Green Day announced they
will be releasing a trilogy of albums, entitled ¡Uno!, ¡Dos!, and ¡Tré!,
these will be released on September 25, 2012, November 13, 2012, and January 15, 2013 respectively.
Watch the video for a track from the trilogy entitled 'Oh Love' below.
Bloc Party are another act rumoured for a secret
set over the weekend. The band formed at Reading Festival back in 1999 and their fourth album, 'Four' is released
at the start of next week on August 20th.
Could Green Day or Bloc Party be playing a
secret slot at Reading Festival 2012?
