Benn, the chief executive of Festival Republic, who organise Reading & Leeds, Latitude Festival and The Big Chill, although it’s unclear if the latter will return, said that full details of a brand new "very small festival" will be confirmed in early October.

Speaking to Music Week about his new event, Benn said: "It's going to be a very small festival, very independent and very tiny. I am very positive about it."

He continued: "Festivals is a very busy, probably saturated market but there will be new additions next year and there will be people that stop doing it next year - that's the nature of things. Overall, I feel very confident about it."

With Reading & Leeds 2012 just two week away, Benn announced earlier this week how ticketholders could get free beer and breakfast for each of the festival’s three days.

As previously reported, The Cure, Kasabian and Foo Fighters will headline Reading and sister event Leeds when the dual festivals return this August bank holiday.
