In a statement to fans on the band’s Facebook page, the singer said:

“Hello everyone, thank you so much for all your messages of support, yes it's true...it finally happened, I've lost my voice :(

I've sustained a vocal injury and been told I cannot sing for a week... seriously I felt something snap, it was very frightening. Unfortunately this means i will not be able to perform at Benicassim and Optimus Alive festival this weekend...I am so so sorry. I'm so sorry to all the fans, I was desperate to still perform, but was told without question not to, so as not to do permanent damage..x”

A statement on the Optimus website said: "Due to a problem in the vocal cords of Florence Welch, the Florence & The Machine have been forced to cancel a performance scheduled for July 14 in Alive'12 Optimus. The problem also affects the concert scheduled for July 12 in Spain, Benicàssim Festival."

A replacement act at Optimus will be announced soon.

The Festival Internacional de Benicassim also confirmed that Florence would not be playing, posting on their Facebook page:  "FIB 2012 organization has been unable to find a substitute in such a small time frame. The Long Island-New York band De La Soul, will be playing in Florence + The Machine's slot at Main Stage on Thursday the 12th of July.”

In better news for Welch, Florence & The Machine are set to score their first UK Number One single with 'Spectrum' this weekend.
