Florence & The Machine to headline Bestival 2012

Bestival favourite joins New Order and Stevie Wonder...

Chris Eustace - 21 May 2012

Florence Welch and her band, riding high after the success of last year’s second album ‘Ceremonials’, will headline the Main Stage on the Friday night (7 September) of the festival, which takes place at Robin Hill Country Park near Newport on the Isle of Wight from 6-9 September.

Bestival organiser Rob Da Bank said of the booking: “The first time I met Flo she was whirling around like a spinning top to a Paul Simon track at a party I was DJing at. I hadn't even heard her open her mouth, but she had this alluring vibe already. Once I heard her scratchy demo I was sold, and when she did her first radio session for me at Radio 1 I couldn’t believe this flame-haired eccentric young lady had such a stunning voice.

Her shows for us at Bestival and Camp Bestival over the last few years have always been highlights for many and I’m glad we can finally seal the deal with a headline show on the Friday of Bestival, and with The XX on before her, this promises to go down in the Best of Bestival yearbook!”

Swedish dance-popsters Miike Snow have also been added to the bill for this year.

Stevie Wonder and New Order are this year’s other headliners, with the likes of The XX, Sigur Ros, Friendly Fires, Justice, Two Door Cinema Club, Hot Chip, Gary Numan, Orbital, Azealia Banks, Ben Howard, Alabama Shakes and Nero among those also on the bill this year.
